What students are saying!
I was first introduced to Bikram Yoga in 2003 when someone gave me a 20-class gift card. At that point, I had practiced traditional yoga for about a year, but had been working out at Gold’s Gym for many years prior to that. I was immediately attracted to Bikram because it worked my body from the inside out and left me feeling invigorated and relaxed. It was very different from any other form of exercise I had experienced.
Fast forward to 2014. I have come to rely on Bikram practice because of the multitude of benefits I have experienced over the years. The minute I step on the mat, I’m forced to let go of whatever is going on in my life and concentrate on the postures. Every class if different, depending on where my body/mind are on that day, but the after effects are the same: less stressed, great mood, flexible muscles and more energy. In effect, it puts me in “the zone,” which is that overall feeling of wellness and balance the all strive for.
I have recently moved to Charlotte, NC and make the 25-minute drive to Lake Norman Bikram Yoga because I can’t imagine life without it. This studio is the cleanest and most spacious of all prior studios where I have practiced. The teachers are so friendly and are dedicated to helping students improve their practice.
I feel so grateful to have the gift of Bikram Yoga Practice! I have tried many alternative hot yoga classes in my travels, but (in my opinion) they pale in comparison.
When Amy asked me to provide some inspirational words regarding my completion of 180 classes, I was not sure what to say since I am not the best student when it comes to certain postures. She indicated that everyone wants to know why I completed the challenge. To be completely truthful, my goal was to quickly rehab my shoulder after having surgery earlier this year. I planned to assume my regular activities of lifting weights, swimming, spinning, cross fit, etc., as soon as possible. However, my left shoulder had another plan. As time went by and I kept adding an additional 30 days to my challenge, something delightful occurred. I discovered the REAL NICOLE or should I say, I realized I want to be a yogi or at least, try to be. I have spent countless years and hours pounding and beating up my body trying to get the perfect body. I realize now that it does not matter. What is most important is how you feel on the inside, not how you look on the outside. So the question again, why did I do the challenge? Because I needed to discover the real me. My goal now is to discover more of the new me via my Bikram/yoga journey by aiming to:
Start – Try to start each class in the right mental and physical state for that particular class.
Begin – Try to begin and maintain focus to execute each posture to the best of my ability for that particular class, whatever that may be, along with seeking stillness in between postures.
Change – Try to embrace the change, meaning that at the end of each practice, I am one more class to evolving into the new me. What can be better than that, since my body on the outside eventually will mirror how I feel on the inside.
I want to thank everyone for their kind words and support these past few months and I especially want to thank my husband, Andrew, for introducing me to Bikram.
Until the next challenge . . . .
“After practicing Bikram Yoga, the big thing I noticed was how it helped my carpal tunnel! The orthopedic doctors had me sleeping in braces…all that did was irritate me and mess with my sleep! I stopped wearing the braces and with a regular practice, I am happy to share that my carpal tunnel is no longer an issue.”
“When I began Bikram, I couldn’t walk without pain, and my back was always bothering. Six months into Bikram, the pain in my back and knees is gone!”
“Bikram Yoga is a life changing experience. It has made me stronger and more flexible, both physically and mentally. My aches and pains have disapeared. It has also improved my patience, focus, calmness and clarity. I am so grateful for this practice and thrilled that LKN is getting an authentic Bikram Yoga studio!”
“After doing Bikram Yoga yoga for 4 months, I have actually gained inches. I have never been 60 inches in my life!!! I can officially say that I’m 5′ tall now — feeling excited.”
“I started practicing Bikram Yoga so I could get off my high blood pressure medicine. Since I have been practicing (8 months), I have consistency lowered my prescription every three months. I have a clear image of me walking out of the of doctor’s office with no prescription. I know that I will achieve my goal when I return to the doctor’s office next time. “
